Media Diary Post

I have recently rented out the video camera from media for the Christmas holidays and two tapes which together have 2 hours worth of filming space, as I need to record the narrative section of the music video.
I need to film at the locations which are; a bedroom, the park/woods and also a lit pathway so I will need obtain:
  • Guitar
  • Tripod
  • Blanket

I will be doing the filming from the 28th December to the 30th December as the Christmas holidays are a busy time.

Media Diary Post

I have started filming my music video. I chose to do the performance side of the music video in Hartsholme park which fits with what I have written about in my rough treatment and also the storyboard I have started to make.

I booked a video camera, microphone, drum kit and two amps in school as I already had most of the instruments needed myself. To transport the instruments to the park I used a van and once we got to the park we had to carry all of the equipment to the set location which I chose as it was away from the kids play area and it was shaded by trees.

To help the lead singer with the lyrics, I gave him the track 'Sound the Angels' and I also helped him by writing the lyrics big on paper incase he forgot the lyrics. By doing this small extra it stopped the lead singer from forgetting the lyrics whilst I was filming the song. I also gave the band several practise runs before I started to film them performing which helped them gain confidence as they were quite nervous about performing in a public park for the first time.

I got approximately 30 minutes worth of filming the performers which is plenty as there is only a minute or two's worth of performance in the music video I am going to create. So, I have enough film time for approximately a minute or two's worth of filming as a typical music video cuts to a different angle every 3 to 4 seconds.

I have also started to edit the performance side of the music video together using FinalCutPro, which is going well as I have already matched the track to the vocalist singing, and I have also started to add in different cuts. By starting to edit my music video together now, it gives me a lot of time to recieve feedback and then improve my work.

Next, I am going to film the narrative side of the music video which consists of the couple being together in a park, the vocalist playing an acoustic and also the vocalist walking down the street singing as it says in my rough treatment.
I will then use FilmCutPro again to edit the cuts together to my original video which is just the performance. By doing this, I will eventually have a finished music video for the song 'Sound the Angles' by The Costigans.
