My final idea for the music video that I am going to make for the song 'Sound the Angels' by The Costigans is a mixture between a narrative and a performance video. I chose to do this as it is a conventional feature of an indie band and I want to stick to the main conventions as this will make my music video look as professional as music videos that are being watched now.
For the performance side of the music video, I chose not to show the band performing on a stage as it is similar to a lot of other music videos I have seen before, without breaking a lot of conventions, I chose to show them performing in an open part of the woods/ forest, as it fits well with the end of the music video and also a lot of the words in the lyrics. This is also much more interesting for the audience to watch as there is more colour and interesting things to look at in comparison to a stage.
For the narrative side of the video, I chose to link with the lyrics to the song by chosing to use a couple in the narrative. I also chose different locations such as the bedroom at the start, the woods and a park as I wanted to show the different between the narrative and performance. By using the woods at the end, and making the actor/ vocalist run from the narrative (woods) to the performance (open section of the woods), it makes the video a lot more interesting to watch for the audience. I also chose the bedroom for a few scenes as it establishes that the two people are a couple and also that the vocalist is the main male character in the music video.
The rough treatment I have shown on one of my posts explains what camera shots I use, the sets and locations and also what is happening in the performance and narrative side of the music video. By having such detail in my rough treatment it will help me when i come to film my music video. I did my rough treatment in great detail so if I forgot what I was going to do, I could refer back to it. I could also use it soon when I create my storyboard as my rough treatment includes a lot of detail about camera shots, movements and the scenes.
