The song which I am going to use is called 'Sound the Angels' by The Costigans. I found this group by searching unsigned bands on Myspace and also Facebook.
To find out what kind of age group listens to this band, I went onto The Costigans Myspace and Facebook profile and clicked on a few of the people that were friends with The Costigans. I saw that a lot of the people were aged between 16 to 30 which I think is the right age group for this band because of their alternative, rock, Indie genre as these genres are commonly listened to by teenagers, young adults and adults.
I am going to create a music video which will be aimed at people aged between 16 to 30 as I want to fit with the age group of the band. Also, I think I would pick a narrative such as a couple together which is common in music videos today which are watched by young people.
Demographics
These are the traditional demographic categories:
- A - Senior management, professional
- B - Intermediate management, professional
- C1 - White collar worker, small trader with premises and staff
- C2 - Blue collar worker
- D - Labourers
- E - Retired, unemployed, unemployable
I think that the demographic profile for The Costigans and the music video would be people ranging from C1 to E. This is because it is stereotypical for someone such as a professional or a manager to be much older and experienced in their work, and so would listen to more classical/older music rather than The Costigans which are quite recent.
The target audience for the music video I am going to make will want to see something interesting and different to other music videos, however, I still want to fit with certain conventions as I want the video to fit with the lyrics. I could do something such as flashbacks or use visual effects such as slow motion which could contrast with certain sections of the song, for example, when the song becomes faster and louder, I could contrast by doing a slow motion visual effect.
The uses and gratifications for this music video will be that it will entertain the public as they can listen to a great song whilst watching the music video.
